Read Me (Write Now)

Image
It doesn't matter what I write or even say about writing.  I still need to actually write something in order to call myself a writer, a poet, or an author.  Yes, writing is hard.  That's the truth.  It doesn't matter how many cups of coffee I drink.  It's not going to make me a better writer if I don't pick up a pen, or sit my ass down in a chair and type away on the laptop.  Even if what I write isn't perfect I know now that I can always go back and fix it or even delete it.  Hemingway, King, Bradbury and so many others are right about their advice on writing.  Listen and learn from them.

In My Daughter's Shoes (New Poem) 5/3/12

Sometimes I forget what it's like to be small. Sometimes I forget what it's like to hear "No!" "No!" "No!" "Stop it!" "Do you want to go to your room!" all the time. "Just wait until you have kids".  That's what my mom said to me one time when I was getting on her nerves.  Of course I was about 12 or 13 at the time but I think it applies to kids or young adults of all ages.   (Mom you were right) Sometimes kids can be a pain in the ah....um....butt. But for the most part kids are sweet, cute,  and so darn smart. Sometimes you just sit there in complete  awe at how nice, kind, and lovable they can be. Sometimes my daughter reminds me of  what it really means to be an adult. I can't fit into her shoes but she can sure fit into mine. Sometimes she's more of an adult than I am. I need to fit into her shoes more often. I love you so much Lucy Jane Clouse. Thank you for being....you. Lucy:  age 3...

Indie Anna Jones (Mini-Blog Essay) 4/29/12

Thank you Steven Spielber g, Harrison Ford, Sean Connery,  and George Lucas, etc. etc.  Okay now that that's out of the way check out this mini-blog essay.  Books by indie authors are on the rise.  With the help of Amazon.com, the Kindle, and independent bookstores such as Back to the Books  and others like it, no longer are books published by small independent presses looked down upon by traditional big time publishers.  Instead they are waking up and taking notice as are the mainstream media and the public as well.   Authors and small presses can create websites, blogs, and so much more  with just a click of a button.   Indie authors now have more control of their work and not to mention their own success thanks to the internet.  Many first time authors are choosing to self-publish than ever before in recent history.  Are you one of them?  Today show your support by buying a book from your local indie author or visit an ind...

Just A Little Bit Drunk (New Poem) 5/21/11

Empty glass of wine waiting to be filled. The bills are all paid at the moment. Just got paid the other day. Off of work and drinking beer and wine late at night. Went to the Farmer's Market earlier today and  picked up some good stuff. Right now it's a little past ten o' clock and drinking  some wine from good old California. Earlier me and my girlfriend were thinking of  things to do such as skinny dipping and other stuff. We both thought it was a good idea. Now we just need to find a nice quiet place  to try it or in other words to do it. Is this poem getting a little too personal? Maybe just a little bit but yet I still continue to  write it down even if it reveals more than you  would like to know. I'm going to get another glass of wine.

Halloween Night (New Poem) 10/16/10

Spooky masks and sweet candy corn treats.   Hell is unleashed on Earth for one night and for  one night only we dress up and become someone else.   We become vampires and zombies.   Wookies and Jedi knights.   Super heroes and creepy psychotic killers.   A hockey mask.   A sharp razored glove.   A white mask with black lifeless eyes.   Known mostly by their first names that  will send chills down your spine. Jason.   Freddy.   Michael.   Halloween night is the only night that we want  to be scared to death, but only if it doesn't really kill us.

A Tribute To Beer (New Poem) 10/10/10

A sip of beer. A bottle....no wait. One, two, three or more bottles of beer. We love beer. We want beer and it is beer that we shall have. Our minds are open. Late at night and letting ourselves go. Wandering into a world of entertainment and erotic fantasies. Stumbling into crazy dreams of uncertain but possible realities. Discovering ourselves for the first, second, or maybe even third time. Our eyes are closed. Our hearts are open. Drifting. Drifting. Drifting. Drifting further and further away off to sleep. Just sleep. Just sleep. Just....ZZZZ....ZZZ....ZZ....Z....zzzz....zzz....zz....z.

Crickets (New Poem) 8/14/10

I can't stop laughing. Our words no longer matter. Yoda speaks and we understand perfectly. Time begs us to stop and stand still but we cover our ears and do not listen. A few crickets are chirping outside.

The Job (Mini-Blog Essay)

At the moment I'm on vacation. I just got back from Cape Hatteras in North Carolina. It was great to actually get away for awhile and have a nice relaxing vacation out of state for once. Okay, so here is the mini-blog essay titled "The Job". Over the years I've had several jobs that for the most part I didn't enjoy. My current job so far has been really good and I plan to stay there for awhile. I don't have any complaints and I don't dread going there like other jobs that I've had in the past. My first job which was working at a family owned fast food restaurant called "Wright's Dairy Rite" in Staunton , Virginia. I just turned 17 a week or so before I got the job. From there I learned the art of flipping burgers and making fries. I also started smoking more often. Before that I didn't smoke that much but after I started working there I became a full time smoker (I have since then quit smoking). Also during the weekends ...

Like A Kick In The Face (New Poem) 7/20/10

Sometimes time flies by so fast that you don't even see it. Wam ! Bam ! Boom! Hi- Yah ! Ka -Pow! What the hell? What just happened. I'll tell you. Time just came by and kicked you right in the face and you didn't even know it until it was too late. Yeah, time is sneaky like that. So watch out and be careful. It could happen again.

Poetic Trash (New Poem) 5/19/10

More blank pages is what you will find inside this tiny little notebook meant for writing down poetry and other important stuff that matters. But look inside, flip through the pages. What do you see? Absolutely nothing. Not a damn word. Why is that you say? Well, it appears that Writer's Block might be here to stay for good this time. But for your sake and mostly mine, I hope not.

A Novel (Mini-Blog Essay)

Someday I'm going to write a novel. Yes, it's a dream that many of us have. But how many of us really do it? I'm sure there are a lot of people that are talented and sit down and write to their hearts content and finally realize their dream and that's great, more power to them and I wish them great success. But there are also a lot of people who say they're going to write a novel but they never start or they start writing but in the end they never finish it. Which one are you? Or does it even matter? It takes a lot of hard work to write. Not everyone has a little office or room where they can sit down drink coffee and start writing the "All American Novel". It may take months or to be more realistic years to finish writing a novel. So what, writing takes time, it's a fact. Just get over it and if you want to write a novel sit down, decide what type of novel that you want to write, and just do what feels natural even if you write one word, o...
